Network marketing (also known as direct sales, multi-level marketing or pyramid selling) is a direct selling method in which independent agents serve as distributors of goods and services, and are encouraged to grow and properly manage their sales by recruiting and training other independent agents.


With this system, a commission is earned on the agent’s successful sales revenue, as well as on the sales revenue gotten from his or her recruits (typically called downlines).

Many people believe that network marketing is a get rich quick scheme. This notion is wrong: Network marketing is a business form that is lucrative only when you work.  The biggest mistake you’ll make is to start up as an agent without a clear understanding of what is involved.

It is the first and the most important thing you need to do. You should investigate and make research on the following about the company before registering; Stability and how old is the company?


How excellent is the company? Are the products or services that consumers will use and need often?. Find out the integrity of the company and the management.

Try as much as possible to thoroughly investigate the experience of the CEO, their level of experience in network marketing, and their background. Have they been successful? Do they have a good reputation?

  1. Consider the Plan

How is the pay scheme? How even is it? How fair or generous is the distribution of wealth? It is crucial as the pay plan represents exactly how and when you will get paid or not.

There are two questions you need to ask regarding the plan: How many pennies from each sale gets paid back to the distributors per month, and how equitable is the sharing of revenue between the old members and the new members?

  1. Draw Up a Business Plan

Developing a business plan is crucial. When you have some potential companies in mind, take your time and write out a plan for a building, expanding and taking your Network Marketing business to the next level.

Even before you have officially joined a company, it helps to have this plan set early. That way you will not crash when you eventually start.

Have these in mind when designing a business plan:

  • If you will be starting your company, what product or service are you going to sell?
  • What is your business goal? Do you simply want to get rich quick or you want to make a difference in the world?
  • What is your marketing strategy? Will you make unending calls, will you make use the internet? Will you go from door to door?

You can always update or change your plan as needed. It helps to have a flexible guide when you’re just starting out.

  1. Company Support, Training and Business Systems

You may have chosen a good company with excellent management, with products that make a real difference in the world, a pay plan that’s considerably fair or very generous, but you do not have an excellent system that works in place, then all of that doesn’t matter.

Most companies will have an organized training system that they use and pass down new recruits, and that’s where mentorship comes in. Always practice what they teach because practice makes perfect.


The way this industry is structured, it’s in the best interest of those higher in your company to help you succeed. So they are always ready to teach you how the system works. To be successful, you must be willing to listen and practice.

  1. Devote Time And Interest

When it comes to network marketing, your time and interest are highly required. If you want to succeed, then you should start spending your time learning about the business is important.


When it seems like your moving too slow do not stop, keep moving, and you will get there. Learning everything you can about your business can be rewarding. You need to treat it like a business and not a hobby.

In the Networking Marketing business, there are; Upline and Downlines.

  • Upline (The higher-ups)

Your Upline includes those people above you.  Ask yourself are they supportive? Do they call from time to time? Do they help you put up a plan?

Are they as committed to your success? You should be ready to relate to the individuals in your upline and be able to call them at any time when you need help. How much support you get from other persons above you in the company is paramount to overall success.

  • Downlines

Care for your downlines. Downlines are those you bring into the system and the people they bring. You should be prepared to teach a new person not just recruit them.

You should be willing to train and support them until they feel confident enough to stand on their own. Even then, care for them.


It is not just about bringing more people into the business, and you must stick with them as you go ahead. Working with these people as you help them develop their skills is the best way to go.

  1. Watch for Imitators

There are fraudsters out there posing as networkers for make-believe companies. They use illegal pyramid schemes to deceive and extort people.


Pyramid scheme scammers recruit people at their loss and the loss of others. So ask questions and if anything seems wrong to you, don’t sign a contract.

The number one identity of a Ponzi scheme is intangible products. They ask you to bring money and make money by inviting others. It is not the same as Network Marketing.

Learn, practice and recruit, and you’ll grow till you become a millionaire networker.
